How did you meet?

Adam moved to my hometown, Albury, to study at uni around 15 years ago. We met through a mutual friend he went to uni with. We were friends for a long time, until a few years ago when we realised we were more than just friends.

Tell us about the proposal…

Adam proposed at North Riddell Beach in Broome on August 8, 2017. It was a Friday afternoon and we’d taken our dog, Ruby, to the beach for a run. He got down on one knee and said the most beautiful words. He presented the ring on a shell that he’d picked up off the beach. He then had champagne ready for us to celebrate. Afterwards we went to Kimberley Sands Resort in Broome, where Adam had arranged a room for us and a beautiful degustation meal with matching wines. He’d decorated the room with fairy lights and had thoughtfully packed a pretty dress for me to change into for dinner. In the morning, he’d also arranged a massage and facial for me at the resort day spa. It was a perfectly planned, romantic and overly thoughtful proposal.

Where was the location of your wedding ceremony?

The ceremony was an intimate gathering of our parents and our bridal party at La Maison’s Cafe. My school friend, Jo Treloar, was our celebrant. The ceremony was in a gorgeous old stone cottage at the back of the café.

Where was the reception?

The reception was at Brady’s Hotel, where we were joined by more friends and family, and we announced we’d wed earlier that day.

How did you find your venues?

We’re both local to the area and have enjoyed both venues for social occasions. We were attracted to La Maison because of its character and location on the Murray river. We chose Brady’s because they have a fabulous balcony and we knew that our guests would have a good, relaxed time there.

During the planning of your wedding, how many times did you visit the location?

Just once for both venues.

What was the theme of your wedding?

There was no theme as such, it was just comfortable and cosy - we kept it low-key.

How easy or hard was it to plan your wedding?

We planned our wedding in eight weeks. It was actually easy because of our amazing bridal party, who helped us with everything. Everything just fell into place.

Where did the majority of your guests stay?

A mixture of hotels and their own homes.

What advice would you give a couple planning a wedding in North East Victoria?

You don’t have to venture far for great photos - both locations had a lot of great places for photos and we had a fantastic experienced photographer, Georgie James, who was able to make the most of it.

What are you glad you did on the day?

Allowed enough time to get ready. Kept things simple. Made the day about us. Asked for help when we needed it.

What advice would you give to other brides planning their wedding?

Make it about you and your fiancé. Be open and honest with your bridesmaids and let them know if you’re feeling anxious or worried. Lean on your bridesmaids for their strengths.

Also, choose a hairdresser and makeup artist that you know and trust. I went to Karen and the team at the Sanctuary Salon and Spa in Albury. I’ve been going there for years and I knew I could trust the team to do their jobs well. Make sure you book in time beforehand to plan how the hair and makeup time will flow, so you can sit back and enjoy this time!

Are there any stand-out vendors from your wedding you would recommend to others?

  • Lion Bear were fantastic entertainers and tailored their music to our preferences.

  • Georgie James was just amazing at getting unique photos. She worked really hard all day.

  • Brady’s were flexible and very accommodating. All of the staff are friendly and down-to-earth

  • Our celebrant, Jo Treloar, knew us well and tailored the ceremony really well. She chose the most lovely words that were perfect for us - very good attention to detail!

  • La Maisons were fabuous also very flexible and accommodating. The food and wine are amazing.

  • Sanctuary Salon and Spa - we pretty much had the whole salon booked out all morning and they made it a truly special and luxurious occasion. We also had fun!

Where did you choose to honeymoon and why?

Ramada Eco Beach Resort in WA because it’s set in the most spectacular place.

What was your favourite part of your wedding day?

Sarah: The ceremony because of how well our celebrant, Jo Treloar, ran it

Adam: Being there in an intimate location with my family and friends marrying Sarah
